Well, what if each room is not just an empty space, but is also a maze in itself? Since every maze allows travelling between two arbitrary points, a room and a maze are equivalent. A maze basically consists of taking a grid of rooms each with four walls, and removing certain walls between the rooms until you get the maze. The one chosen is the recursive nested maze. There are very few algorithms that are suitable for generating mazes that are big in two dimensions and keep locality. Placing a wall at a certain location could divide the maze into two areas, and it's not possible to know whether it does without at least some knowledge of the structure of the rest of the already generated part of the maze.Īs a consequence, standard generating methods necessarily need to keep the whole maze in memory, which of course is not feasible for a 61000圆1000 maze in Minetest. Generating a maze is a very non-local process. However, due to the method of generation, I believe that within the 16385x16385 square that goes from 0 to 16384 in both directions, it's guaranteed that there's always a path from any point to any other point. Therefore, if a path from an arbitrary point A to another arbitrary point B needs to go through the area outside the 61840圆1840 map, there will be no path to go from A to B. ![]() The coordinates are truncated because the maximum size of a Minetest map is 61840圆1840. The maze is a subset of a bigger, 65537圆5537 nodes maze. It is intended to give the visual impression of an "infinite maze", while keeping some degree of credibility. This maze is not intended to be solvable. To use, create a new world and activate the mod before entering the world for the first time. To help balance out this dark look, Rouge Dior in Bar is a nude, almost pink-hued lipstick with a shimmery finish – absolutely gorgeous.ĭior Tutu Pink: Granted, this may be the grouping that seems the most out-of-place in a fall collection, but secretly it was the one that excited me the most. More black than grey, this polish is very deep and rockin’ with a hint of subtle silver shimmer throughout. I’ll source some swatches from some friends so you can take a look! In the meantime, I have gotten my hands on both the polish and lipstick from this group. The Dior Vernis in Massai is a gorgeous deep, brick-red that syncs perfectly with the Rouge Dior in Rouge Massai, a bright shade of red that applies like a dream.ĭior Bar Grey: Unfortunately I had a wee bit of a mix up and didn’t end up with the 5 Couleurs palette in Bar but wanted to show you what it looks like (it’s a stunner, no?). I’ll keep playing with it, but for the time being it’s not my first choice. As gorgeous as it is in theory, it’s a shade that I personally have trouble wearing on the lids without making my eyes look tired or sick. While the four main shades are stunning, the central red-hued shade is giving me a little trouble. The 5 Couleurs palette in Trafalgar is very intriguing although not entirely one that I would typically choose. He called these designs his Trafalgars.” The sensual punches of red in this group certainly stay true to this – all three of these are equally eye-catching. * Nail polish swatches will follow at the end – after my stint at the cottage, my nails aren’t too happy with me but I will update when they’re in better shape!ĭior Trafalgar Red: “In the 1950s, Christian Dior would send out scarlet coloured designs during catwalk shows to wake up the audience and get their attention. ![]() I’ve separated each into their “groups” so you can take a look. Each palette, with its different shade focus, has been carefully paired with shades of Rouge Dior and Dior Vernis that flow effortlessly for a complete look. I find that it feels like a collection that takes the transition between the seasons into consideration, still keeping things warm and fun with some brighter shades as well as those that blend into the autumn season. This collection shifted the focus to Dior’s 5 favourite colours – red, grey, pink, black and blue – for a combination of palettes that may not be entirely typical of fall. You may think I’m exaggerating, but (and friends will attest to this), I’m probably understating my excitement.Īnyways, I’m sure you can imagine the near makeup-induced meltdown that occurred when I received the new Dior Fall 2014 Makeup Collection and found that it was all about the eyes with 5 (yes, 5! One is not pictured above due to a little mixup) 5 Couleurs palettes. I can’t handle it, there’s just some little part of me that goes crazy over the gorgeous shades and finishes and I lose my mind. I pretty much die of happiness every time I see a new Dior palette. Unwilling to waive their yield, they picked and pressed the grapes anyway and were stunned by the amazingly sweet outcome. A sudden onset of winter froze their harvest before they got the chance to bring it in. It’s believed that winemakers in the German region of Franconia accidentally invented ice wine (or “Eiswein”, its German name) in the late 18th century. While this method is easier and less expensive, it isn’t permitted if vintners want to use the label “ice wine”. Instead of waiting for the right temperatures to freeze grapes naturally, they harvest them and freeze them artificially. There are exceptions, though: Some North American wines age in oak barrels for several months to develop their complex aromas.Īs the traditional way to make ice wine is a time-consuming and costly process, some winemakers prefer to take shortcuts. Most ice wines don’t undergo an aging process after fermentation. In comparison, table wines typically ferment for only two weeks. Because of these low temperatures and the high sugar content of the must, fermentation takes three to six months. It must happen at low temperatures to preserve the freshness of the must. ![]() The fermentation process also takes longer than it does for table wine. This must, however, is highly concentrated and contains a lot of sugar. As the frozen water remains in the fruit, each grape yields only 10 to 20% of the amount of must that vintners can extract from a non-frozen grape. Vintners often harvest the frozen grapes in the middle of the night and press them in unheated rooms to extract their sugar-rich liquid. ![]() Only a small portion of juice remains liquid, and the grape’s sugar content concentrates on this juice. With temperatures that low, the water inside the grapes freezes. But grapes for ice wine stay on the vines until the winter when temperatures drop to at least 20☏ (-7☌). The harvest season for table wine usually starts between the middle of September and early November. The process of producing ice wine differs in multiple aspects from making red or white table wine. Red varietals that make good ice wines are -among others- Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Malbec. But they also use many other varietals, including Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, or Sauvignon Blanc. German vintners make great whites from Riesling grapes, while Canadians produce delicious wines from Vidal grapes. Both red and white varietals are eligible for this purpose. ![]() Winemakers use regular wine grapes to produce ice wine. In this article, we will cover both topics in detail, and we will also talk about the best ways to enjoy ice wine. And the production methods that vintners follow to make it are still unique. The sweet frozen wine has a fascinating history. As very specific conditions are needed to produce it, it’s rare and also expensive in most parts of the world. Ice wine is a very sweet type of dessert wine that is made from frozen red or white grapes. But sudden changes in weather can also ruin a harvest – and create a new type of wine in some cases. The combined impact of sunshine, temperature, and rain can produce excellent vintages. Winegrowing is a complicated craft, and winemakers face many obstacles when trying to create outstanding wines. ![]() ![]() It's got a lot to offer and beautiful design. And it just felt like a very simple way to get into it. Initially, I was really drawn to the interface. And Things and OmniFocus were the two ones that really stood out at the time.Īnd I ended up going with Things. ![]() And I could have used pen and paper, but I've been a techie for so many years, so I definitely wanted a digital task manager. So, once I started to practice GTD, I naturally went looking for a tool to support the practice. Do you remember any first interactions or how you came across with The Omni Group or OmniFocus, how that first entered your life and your radar? Talk to me about the other side of the coin, the vehicle through which all of this flows. So, we haven't introduced a set of principles and practices. And it has certainly borne much fruit since then. So, it was, I guess, a creative exercise as I was learning this that prompted it. Once you break the basic principles down, I don't think they're specific to any area of life they can really apply in literally every situation. But I was so determined to see what this could do while I was still around, that I got creative and just took the basic principles. And I think it was always all-encompassing it just wasn't immediately obvious. And I thought, "If this works for business, maybe it could work in other areas as well."Īnd that was one change I know David made when he wrote the second edition is made it kind of more holistic in its scope, I would say, more of a all-encompassing. I didn't have a business challenge, but I had other challenges. So, it was really just working with what I had to work with at the time. What in your mindset said, "You know what? I think, even if I apply it in my personal life this is a direction that I should start from first"? You took the exact opposite direction, which I find really curious. What's really got me curious is most people, when they read Getting Things Done or hear about that material, they come in with a very business mindset, "How can this help me be more productive and do more things faster in my work life?" And over time, they may find themselves applying it to their personal lives as well. And I love the inflection point of how this stuff comes at the exact perfect time for you. So, one of the reasons I was so motivated to do the work that I'm doing today. So, I definitely credit GTD to helping save my life. And it just felt really good to take this, definitely a very large problem in my life and put it into a project form where I could actually take action and move the needle on it, without kind of getting too caught up in the drama and going into that victim role and so forth. And I hadn't heard of that concept before, but I just kind of naturally went that route. I've heard David Allen talk about turning a problem into a project. And that was one that somehow objectified the healing process. So, I created several projects, including one to heal from cancer. But I still wanted to practice Getting Things Done, as written. and I wasn't able to work at this point, I kind of had to put everything on hold, except getting over my challenges. And as one person put it, it was the best and worst time of my life all rolled into one.īut as I was going through the book. So, it was definitely a challenging and very insightful time in my life. And reading through the book, I didn't even know if I was going to be around by the end of the year. I was going through Stage 4 cancer in 2008. I read the Getting Things Done book when I was literally fighting for my life. I realized that I was actually practicing GTD in many areas of my life, but what it gave me is a framework, a way of formalizing the practice, certainly making some improvements and adjustments, but it was a very natural sort of fit.Īnd I had a very, I think, unusual introduction to GTD. But when I discovered GTD, it wasn't like discovering it for the first time. Well, it's almost hard to imagine life before GTD. What was life like prior? And what happened during the transition? And what his life looked like since? Talk to us about before and after OmniFocus and GTD. Well, Tim, you have an incredible story and I'd love to dive right into that segment. This gives Pac-Man some valuable breathing room to clear dots from the maze – or get his revenge if the ghosts are close enough! What happens to the ghosts when Pac-Man eats them? Other than that initial reversal of chasing Pac-Man, their movement is randomly decided at each intersection they reach. They immediately move away from Pac-Man’s position – and at a much slower speed than normal. When a Power Pellet is eaten, the ghosts immediately change their movement patterns, regardless of whether they were in their pursuit or scatter modes. ![]() There are four Power Pellets in the maze when Pac-Man eats one, the ghosts turn temporarily blue – signifying that they can be eaten by the hero! This last for just a short time the ghosts start flashing between blue and white to demonstrate that they are about to turn back to their normal, dangerous colours – in later levels, the period of time to get your revenge is so brief as to be almost imperceptible. This is also the area he patrols during scatter mode, making the bottom left Clyde’s Corner! How do you fight back against the ghosts? Though Clyde does chase Pac-Man (in much the same way as Blinky), when he gets within eight spaces of Pac-Man, he starts to retreat into the bottom-left corner of the maze. Poor Clyde – always the outsider! His behaviour reflects this too, cleverly – unlike the others, he just doesn’t seem to have much interest in chasing Pac-Man. Pokey – more commonly known as Clyde – is the one ghost whose name doesn’t rhyme with the others. You know those moments where you get trapped between two ghosts and can’t get away? That’ll usually be Inky and his random behaviour getting you cornered! Who is the orange ghost? During scatter mode, Inky will patrol the lower right corner of the maze. He’ll patrol an area dependent on where Blinky is at any given time – and will become more random the further away from Blinky he is. This is a strange one – though unpredictable, Inky’s behaviour is actually linked to the position of the Ghost Gang’s leader, Blinky. The most unpredictable of the four ghosts, Inky is dangerous because you can’t always know exactly what he’s going to do next! What pattern does Inky follow? The cyan ghost’s ‘official’, original English-language name was Bashful, but his nickname – and like the others, the name he’s known by now – is Inky. During scatter mode, Pinky heads for the top left corner and moves in an anti-clockwise, circling motion around the corner walls. Pinky moves around maze walls in an anti-clockwise pattern, but also roughly follows Pac-Man’s movement – targeting four spaces ahead of where the player is headed, which is designed to get out in front of them and cut them off. ![]() Like the other ghosts, she has her own, very specific patterns of movement. However, she’s more commonly known by her nickname, Pinky. Oddly – despite Blinky being the ghost known to speed up – the pink ghost’s ‘real’ name is Speedy. He’s a very tough enemy to outrun, especially as he follows Pac-Man closely once he’s on his trail – and doesn’t even cease his relentless pursuit during periods when the other ghosts enter scatter mode. With 20 dots remaining in the first maze, Blinky gets faster – but in subsequent mazes, he speeds up even sooner. Unlike the others, Blinky speeds up as Pac-Man eats more dots in the maze. Blinky is perhaps the leader of what’s known as the Ghost Gang he’s definitely the most deadly ghost – and almost certainly the most likely to catch our little yellow hero. All of this are things that you may not even notice during play, but we’re here to shine a light on each ghost and reveal what it is they do! Who is the red ghost in Pac-Man?Īccording to one of the attract screens on the English language version of the arcade game, the red ghost is named Shadow – and his nickname is Blinky.įor some reason, it’s the nicknames that stuck with the ghosts, so in general, this one is just known as Blinky. They sure do! Considering Pac-Man was originally released in 1980, it may surprise you to learn that each ghost in Pac-Man has their own behaviour and patterns that they follow, as well as behaviour that they adhere to during what’s known as ‘scatter mode’. There are four ghosts in the original Pac-Man (which we rated as top of the best Pac-Man games!): a red ghost, a pink ghost, a cyan ghost and an orange ghost.
